About Mrs. Russo

Mrs. Russo brings over twenty years of experience as an Educator, all of which have been in the neighboring county of Manatee.  Mrs. Russo was born and raised in Manatee County and is a fourth-generation Floridian.  She worked in the business world before she decided to become a Teacher. She has been married to her husband for thirty years, who is a Journalist/Newsman for close to 40 years. He works for WFLA Channel 8 News, right here in the Tampa Bay area. Together they have raised three beautiful children, two (the twins) have recently graduated from their respective colleges, while the youngest is attending The University of Florida, and will hopefully be graduating this year.

Mrs. Russo obtained her BS in Psychology from the University of Central Florida and her teaching credentials from the Education Preparatory Institute at Manatee Junior College, at what is now the State College of Florida, Bradenton, FL.  She is certified to teach Elementary Education Kg-6th, English 6th-12th, ESOL and ESE endorsed, and will soon have her Gifted Endorsement and Reading Certification.  She plans to continue her education by getting her Master's Degree in possibly School Counseling or  Education Curriculum and Technology.

She began her career teaching Pre-Kindergarten and has taught at almost every grade level.  Mrs. Russo is excited to teach Reading to Middle Schoolers this year! She looks forward to the challenge of instilling a love for reading in her students while improving their reading skills.  She also looks forward to getting to know her students and what books they enjoy reading.  There is much to feel excited about in the 2021-22 school year!

My Teaching Philosophy

All children can learn and be successful in a stimulating, caring and safe environment. Not all students learn in the same way, some are visual, others auditory or even tactile-kinesthetic, so different approaches to learning need to take place. Learning should be a social activity, as students will learn more from each other than they will from a Teacher, so peer tutoring and small group learning are important aspects of the classroom environment.  Learning should be fun, and that can only happen when all students feel safe in their environment. My classroom MUST be a safe zone for all students!  I strongly believe that a Teacher's role is that of a partner to a student's parents, family members and those that care about the child.  Working together, a child's odds of academic success increases tremendously!
